Summary

Description
English: Proposed biosynthetic pathway of pleuromutilin. The left part of the scheme is representing a general biosynthetic approach for Geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP). The follwoing cyclisation steps to the pleuromutilin tricyclic core will be provided by class II and class I terpene synthase domain of Pl-cyc. Final catalytic, stereospecific hydroxylation at C-11 and C-3, regiospecific oxidation of the 3-hydroxy group to a keton, acetyl-group-transfers OH-14 and final hydroxylation at the α-acetyl position will lead to pleuromutilin.
