Description
English: Razmnama or Razmnameh (The Book of War), the 17th century Persian language translation of one of the great Hindu epics of India, the Mahabharata, created for Mughal emperor, Akbar. Ms. Leaf illustration of Prince Puru enthroned by his father Raja Yajati. Inscription in black and red inks on lower border of page "bar takht nishanidani Rajah Jajat pisar-I Khwud Pur-ra bi-ja-yi khud (signed) Bhawani." Colours include light green, olive-green, violet, blue, purplish-red, orange, yellow, black and white and gold etc. Prince seated on backed hexagonal throne on dias under canopy left of centre. 4 attendants to eitherside. Small table with flasks and jars in foreground, stool before throne, architectual background with tree and flights of birds above. Patterned floor, carpet on dias, floral llining on awning. Verso with text
