McKean Historical Notes, by Fred G. McKean, published in 1906, in Washington, D.C., USA. The illustration appears on page 29. This was previously published in The Clan Donald, volume 1, by Angus MacDonald and Archibald MacDonald, published in 1896, in Inverness, Scotland. The caption of this illustration in The Clan Donald reads: "Seal of Reginald, son of Somerled. Reginaldus Rex Insularum, Dominus de Ergile. 1164-1207".

No later than 1896 (the year the image appeared in The Clan Donald). No caption is given in McKean Historical Notes.
