To illustrate an original encyclopedic article about the murder of the subject, on Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. The image is used to illustrate to a reader the victim of the crime, significant as leading to the establishment of the Sex Offenders' Register in the UK. The case is also at the forefront of a campaign to retrospectively include offenders, in particular her killer, on the register who would otherwise evade registration due to legal technicalities. |

The photo is of the same resolution as the web source, which is already of a reduced resolution from the original photograph. It has been subjected to noise reduction filtration using PhotoShop CS3. The image was released to the media and public for broad distribution by the police investigating the disappearance of the subject, who would not lose profit from its further distribution. It is believed to be free for distribution and reuse. It has been extensively disseminated in the news media, both TV and print, since its first release in 1994 and is iconic with regard to the case. No further free image is likely to be created as the subject is deceased. It lacks significant creative elements. |
