Summary

Description
English: "Royal mail steam ship "Scotia" 4,050 tons, 1,000 horse power. Captain C.H.E. Judkins. Off Cape Race throwing overboard the New York Associated Press parcel." View of the two-masted paddle-wheel steamship in the Atlantic. Smoke billows from her two funnels as she steams past Cape Race, Newfoundland, and its lighthouse. In the water, below the rear mast, is the canister containing news and messages for the New York Associated Press. Men in a rowboat approach the canister to retrieve it, return to land, and send the news to New York via telegraph at least two days ahead of the ship's arrival.
