Caption: William Selig was a Hollywood pioneer. In 1909, he established the first movie studio in Los Angeles. As this poster makes evident, Selig used exotic animals in numerous jungle-themed movies. His thirty-two-acre Selig Zoo, in Lincoln Park, opened to the public in 1915.
