Summary

Description

English: The Sint-Pieters- en Pauluskerk (Saint peter's and Paul's Church) is a former Jesuit Church in Mechelen. The pulpit was sculpted by Hendrik Frans Verbruggen (April 30, 1654 in Antwerp – December 12, 1724, Antwerp).

The pulpit rests on a globe carried by land animals; allegories for the four known continents are sitting on the globe:

  • America: indian, tortoise and snake
  • Europe : a young woman with cornucopia, a sceptre, a book and a hind
  • Asia: a woman with turban and leopard
  • Africa: a black man covered in elephant skin and crocodile
