Description
English: Slotted waveguide antenna of S-band (2 - 4 GHz) marine radar, with section of plastic cover cut away to show internal construction. Exhibit in Gdynia Maritime School, Poland. This common type of marine radar antenna consists of a waveguide in a V-shaped metal reflector, with many slots cut in it. It radiates a narrow vertical fan-shaped beam of microwaves, perhaps 15° high and 2-3° wide, perpendicular to the long axis of the antenna. When installed in a ship, a motor rotates the bar-shaped antenna about a vertical axis, scanning the beam around the horizon, to search for other ships.
