Summary

Description Spade House, in Sandgate, Kent, England. It was designed around 1899 by architect C.F.A. Voysey for novelist H.G. Wells, and Wells lived there between 1901 and 1909. It is named after the spade design on the door, chosen by Wells in preference to Voysey's usual heart-shaped motif. The building later became a hotel, and as of 2021 it was a nursing home.
