Summary

Description

Bitcoin’s tribulations this week prompted us to look through our Digital Archive for past revolutions in currency. This is a specimen of the paper money of Upper Canada in 1815. This is the ninth six-shilling note in New York currency that Michael Dye, an innkeeper on Yonge Street here in Toronto, issued (on June 1st, 1815). It is payable in Army Bills. Wonder what the exchange rate on that is these days?
