MACHINERY Spirit of Tasmania I & II use four Wartsila Sulzer V16 twin turbo-charged 16ZA40S diesel engines that produce 10,560kW each. This powers two variable pitch propellers via a reduction gearboxes at 510 RPM which gives a service speed of 27 knots. This uses approximately 7000 litres per hour.
