Summary

Description
English: This image shows the original starting point of the Cobourg and Peterborough Railway in downtown Cobourg. The buildings in the image are the remaining portions of the Crossen Car Works, which by this point in 1948 were largely removed. The line ran south from this point along Railway Street (today known as Division Street) to the harbour, and north past the Grand Trunk Railway lines to Rice Lake. The Cobourg page that hosts this image states that the location is at Railway and University. However, their geotagging on that same page places it at Railway and King Street (Kingston Road). According to Ted Rafuse, a local historian, "Crossen expanded his business operation by constructing a series of large buildings on property between University Avenue and the Grand Trunk Railway and west of George Street." This would suggest the location at Railway and University is correct, and that this image is likely looking northeast.
