English: The Cliftonville Hotel The Cliftonville Hotel, on Runton Road (A149), was built by A.F. Scott & Son of Norwich in 1897. It retains many of its original features such as a 'Gone with the Wind' style staircase and beautiful stained glass windows in the reception.
With the arrival of the railway line in 1877, and with the Great Eastern running the 'Norfolk Coast Express' direct from London's Liverpool Street to Cromer, stopping only once (in North Walsham) by 1897, architects were commissioned to erect tall red brick houses with bay windows, gables, dormers and the occasional domed angle turret. The principal architect was G.J. Skipper of Norwich. |
