Summary

Description
English: The Denny Tank. This tank was built in 1882, is A-listed, and was the world's first civilian ship model experimental tank, containing 1.75 million litres of water. It was designed for the Denny shipyard, which stood nearby [information in this paragraph can be found in a "Dumbarton Heritage Trail" leaflet].

The Denny Tank was inspired by William Froude's Admiralty Tank in Torquay (1135938), and is still used for testing hull designs down to the present day. See also 1135981, which shows the far end of the tank.

For an external view of the building containing this tank, see 1135923. This building is part of the Denny Tank Museum, which is the Dumbarton branch of the Scottish Maritime Museum; see 620082.

There is also an engine on display outside the museum; see 1135887.
