Description
English: The Guard Tree Medallion and Memorial Seat were designed by VMI Art History instructor William Marks Simpson VMI Class of 1924. It says “Here Stood the VMI Guard Tree / 1839-1951 / An Emblem of VMI Esteemed by All Her Men." The Guard Tree stood on Post from 1839 until the bulk of it was removed due to disease in 1951.
