Text Appearing Before Image: things which he de-sired. When the Spirit left him he was shewn Jeru-salem and other cities, and especially Nazareth, andtherein a virgin exceedingly white and fair. Whilegazing upon this scene, he beheld the heavens open,and an angel came down and stood before him, whoexplained to him the various scenes that were broughtbefore his vision. The virgin that Nephi saw was named Mary ; shewas the mother of Jesus. And the angel next shewedhim the virgin with the babe in her arms. Theangel also shewed him the Savior; how he should bebaptized of John in the Jordan; how he went forthamong the people preaching the gospel and doing mar-velous works, and how that he was taken and cruci-fied, and thus died for the sins of tlie world. Nephifurther saw how the world fought against the disciplesof Christ, and how, in the end, all those who contendedagainst Heaven and against Gods servants were dc-stro3ed.
