Summary

Description
English: Three Minolta 50 mm photographic prime lenses with different lens speeds of 3.5, 1.7, and 1.2. The lens with lens speed 3.5 is for macro photography, where the lens speed is of less concern in comparison to the achievable depth of field, thus it has a small entry opening resulting in the lens speed of 3.5. The lens with lens speed 1.7 in the middle is a standard lens coming with many SLR cameras, here from the Minolta AF assortment of lenses from the 1980s. The lens with 1.2 on the right is from the non-AF Minolta lens series from the 1970s and early 1980s. The speed of 1.2 results in a very large entry lens (large opening) enabling, e.g., photography at low light, and resulting in a relatively high sales price. The image is meant to show the relation between entry lens diameter and lens speed.
