Summary

Description
English: Close up of a page from Peurbach's trigonometric table on display at the Computer History Museum. From CHM, display label: "Peurbach, Georg and Regiomontanus, Tractatus Georgi Peurbachii super propositiones Ptolemaei de sinubus & chordis, Johann Petreius, Germany, 1468 (1541 edition)

Peurbach's may be the oldest surviving printed mathematical tables. Loan of Gwen and Gordon Bell, B333.85"

The Sinus values in the table are based on a circle of radius 60 and, taken as a decimal fraction, are 60/100ths of the modern sine function for the angle shown. Thus the value printed in the upper-left corner, .3856796, is equal to 0.6 × sin(40°), rounded to seven decimal places. See w:Ptolemy's table of chords for a description of this practice. The narrow columns give the change in sinus value per arc second, in units and tenths, for interpolation.
