Description
English: A circa 1940-1955 photograph of Italian Libya era Tripoli, from the Tripoli Bay harbour
  • The Ottoman era Red Castle (Tripoli Castle museum) is on the right, and the corniche and former Teatro Miramare (demolished 1970s) are on the left.
  • The Italian colonial Piazza Italia (1930s-1950s), or present day Martyrs' Square, is between them with palm trees and monument columns.
  • This is also before the 1960s bay landfills expanded the city's land to and beyond the photographer's position on the harbour's water.
