Summary

Description
English: Tullamore station (1982)
Tullamore station, between Portarlington and Athlone, on the Dublin – Galway/Mayo line opened in 1859, on the completion of the line from Tullamore to Athlone. It replaced two earlier, temporary stations used after the railway opened, from Portarlington, in 1854..

The platform (left) and the cement silo (upper left) were added following the 1970 McKinsey Report which identified, inter alia, certain stations for growth and development. The silo is no longer in use. The signal cabin (lower right) was made redundant with the introduction of CTC signalling. The train is up ballast headed by 185. The driver had just exchanged the large single-line staff. At the time CIE single lines used the ETS (electric train staff). NIR used the ETT (electric train tablet).

N3324 : Train at Tullamore station shows the same view in 1975 before the silo and extra platform.
