Description
English: The U.S. Navy escort carrier USS Fanshaw Bay (CVE-70) is straddled by shells from a Japanese battleship (either Kongo or Haruna) during the Battle off Samar, 25 October 1944. The photo was taken from USS Kitkun Bay (CVE-71). General Motors FM-2 Wildcats of Composite Squadron 5 (VC-5) are readied for launching from her flight deck.
