(Feb. 22, 2005) – The guided missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) departs Naval Station Mayport's Basin for routine work-up training off the coast of Florida. Guided missile cruisers are multi-mission, anti-air warfare, anti-submarine warfare, long-range strike and anti-surface warfare surface combatants capable of supporting carrier and expeditionary strike groups, amphibious forces, or of operating independently and as flagships of surface action groups.
