Summary

Description
English: A line chart of the crime rate in the United States, as reported in the Uniform Crime Reports from 1970 to 2001. The chart highlights the period after 1994 when the COPS grant program of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 supported hiring of additional police officers. Chart appeared in US General Accounting Office. “COMMUNITY POLICING GRANTS: COPS Grants Were a Modest Contributor to Declines in Crime in the 1990s.” Washington, DC: General Accounting Office, October 2005. https://www.gao.gov/new.items/d06104.pdf.
