Summary

Description
English: Black-and-white watercolor of the eastern approaches of the Arlington Memorial Bridge across the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., in the United States. The approaches were designed by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead & White. The lead designer was William Mitchell Kendall.

The view is looking directly west at the water line of the Potomac River at the Lincoln Memorial. The entrance to the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway is to the left, indicated by two square columns. The Watergate (flanked by plantings) is in the center of the image, with a low fountain shown in the plaza to be created in front of the memorial. Two square columns mark the entrance to the Arlington Memorial Bridge, which can be seen to the right.

This design was approved, but budgetary, civil engineering, and other concerns led to its radical revision.
