Great photo but I am not sure it is from 1944; the link to the website seems to have failed and I can not find the image on the website it was sourced from to research further. My qualms come from the high quality and good colour reproduction of the image - the resolution is also very fine. All in all it doesn't look like a colour image from 1944. The photo is obviously posed - nothing wrong with that, plenty of war photos were posed, but there's a massive lack of impedimenta that would go with a mortar team such as the many tubes/cases for the mortar rounds, and the soldiers' personal kit. The weapons usually operated in teams and so on as well, so it all looks a bit sterile and lonely. What I think we see here is a group of reenactors with a mortar and only two (different) bombs; note the foot wear of the centre soldier which seem to be green jungle boots possibly? Can anyone shed any light on this as it appears quite a few times on wiki; if it is a modern image, al it needs is a suitable title instead of it being cited as a rare 1944 image.
