I'm Canadian (European decent) and have actually visited multiple cities within China, and nothing about the photo is obvious to me. I truthfully had no knowledge of the history of the hutongs, even after spending hours walking through them in Beijing. Perhaps the description should be revised for non-native Chinese such as myself?
