Also, what is /a/ doing on there? From the audio sample on a connected page, I believe it may be referring to /aɪ/, but it's quite a stretch to consider that a monophthong outside the South... Or is this chart breaking down the diphthongs? That seems like a pretty pointless exercise... Just what is this chart intended to show?
