All right, who said this was the Xbox logo? 4.252.86.241 00:16, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Monochrome?[edit]

What's up with that? Shouldn't it be red? --YowuzaZXWolfie (talk) 18:25, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was red. I don't see any red Nintendo logos on the current Nintendo websites (excluding the red Club Nintendo logo), they are almost all grey or black, same goes for Nintendo logos on box art. So why has the image been reverted to red again? --Grandy02 (talk) 18:45, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There was some sort of error with updating the image. I think there was something wrong with the cache... Anyway, Nintendo's logo originally was grey, but they changed it to red and its been like that for ages until recently when it became grey again. --Super Shy Guy Bros. Not shy? 20:25, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then why does it still display as Red here? It should be grey. --72.138.241.12 (talk) 04:56, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. There is chatter on the internet about Nintendo's switch from a red logo to a grey one, and the logo used on nintendo.com is grey. I'm changing it back. WODUP 04:46, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with using monochrome. Nintendo's logo is still red. Look on the back of any game case, manual, or any product. The only real place its grey is the website, which is only because the rest of the site is also grey so this is probably a stylistic choice for the website.

It is not uncommon to modify the logo as to fit the webpage, other companies do this as well. Because red is used on everything but the website and where obtrusive, reverting to grey is an error. Since discussion has died, I'm going to revert back to red, if anyone opposes, I'll revert back. A simple google search [1] also supports red.-- penubag  (talk) 09:34, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Nintendo executive has confirmed that the logo is grey, and has been for two years. All game cases with a red logo are outdated, with their newer games displaying in white (This is probably because grey would not stand out on boxart). The Nintendo logo is grey. All signs point to it, and it has been confirmedClick Here. You are ignoring the confirmation for a reason that I honestly can not understand, perhaps nostalgia, but you are basing your argument on your opinion, while we are basing it off of an executive confirmation.--72.138.241.12 (talk) 05:06, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what the rule with logos is, but wouldn't we go with what's most familiar with the general public (what's "well sourced")? That's generally the red logo since the days of the NES. I don't see a problem with noting the new logo, but the red one should be featured prominently given the history behind it. —Locke Coletc 07:41, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am not basing my argument on nostalgia. My brand new copy of Pokemon Diamond has a red logo right on it File:PokemonDiamondBox.jpg take a look for yourself. And as for a wii game, have a look at Legend of Zelda:Twilight Princess File:TP_Wii.jpg. They are both red... I don't see why the link you pointed to says "been grey for a couple of years" It is obviously wrong.-- penubag  (talk) 22:19, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Twilight Princess is nearly two years old. Diamond and pearl is also quite old. And I am pretty sure an executive confirmation is more correct than your assumption. All current Nintendo media has the logo as Grey. Even on the Nintendo Wii box, it is grey. In the new Mushroom Men game, they have the Nintendo logo, and it is grey (Though, granted, this is a third party title).--72.138.241.12 (talk) 00:41, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Anyways, I emailed NOA trademark and this is their response: [2]. I know this doesn't carry much support against the executive but they did say that the logo is generally red. I'm going to reply to the email with the link you have provided of the executive and see what their responce is. -- penubag  (talk) 01:07, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like there wasn't a reply. I'd say that we should still stick with red because it is widely known as the symbol of Nintendo and even if they adopted grey or white, it isn't as recognized as red is. If we are going to switch to a different color, let's at least wait until it gets integrated into the public.-- penubag  (talk) 04:24, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Commen conception should not be a factor here. If a company changes a logo, we need to change it also, because that is the logo. It doesn't matter what people think the logo is - it matters what the logo actually is.--72.138.241.12 (talk) 04:52, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the Nintendo exec is wrong. Metroid Prime 3:Corruption, a 2007/8 game bearing a red logo would have been only a few months old when she made that claim (or when it was posted on that website). Other games include Battalion Wars 2, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates and Chibi-Robo!: Park Patrol. The exec was probably assuming that their logo had changed based on a few of the first party games that had been released. But in my resent search, I've seen just as much or more of black, white and red logos as grey. As the email says, it probably just depends on the background it's displayed on.-- penubag  (talk) 09:56, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did some research too. It seems that red Nintendo logo has finally been wiped out of all Wii or DS boxarts as of 2008 (1, 2), except for some US games released early in the year, such as DK Barrel Blast, Big Brain Academy and BWii. Also, the logo retroactively lost its color on the New Play Control boxarts too. Shoud we revert it to grey ? Contributions/84.100.210.211 (talk) 16:50, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
A large selection of Wii game covers can be viewed here - all but the earliest Nintendo releases feature a grey-on-white or white-on-silver logo on the reverse. (Logos appearing on the front vary depending on the artwork). Also in addition to the website, the grey logo is used in Nintendo's corporate material, as can be seen in their 2008 annual report. Personally I much prefer the red logo (a combination of aesthetics and nostalgia), however I would be in favour of using the grey one here as it is a better representation of Nintendo's corporate identity. Yes, I have to agree now too... It's a shame. [3] -- penubag  (talk) 22:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the image was uploaded on the Commons you should have discussed there! A single project cannot obtain a consensus over an image used in several other projects. Shame on you, guys! But I don't intend to fight abou this. I'm gonna upload the another version apart. Next time it will be nice and better if you bring the discussion there. Nintendo Logo Transparency[edit]

The Nintendo logo usage guide (available at http://www.pidgi.net/wiki/File:Logo_usage_guide_-_Nintendo.pdf) shows that the space inside the "racetrack" exterior of the logo should be transparent, unlike the filled-in white that this SVG file and all of Wikipedia uses. This is also clearly evident on official web spaces such as http://www.nerd.nintendo.com/. I'd like to request this at least be talked over. --JB2448 (talk) 16:06, 16 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
