I just had an MRI to determine whether I had a rotator cuff tear. Test found a "massive and essentially complete greater than 4 cm AP supraspinatus and infraspinatus delaminating rotator cuff tendon tear is associated with tendon retraction to the glenohumeral joint, cephalization of humeral head owing to diminished rotator cuff depressor function. etc. Fatty infiltrations, etc. no cancer.

I keep reading on all this information but since I'm not a doctor, I would like to ask someone who understands this and the skills of a less than excellent surgeon to be able to help me get back some function and lower the pain. The pain is horrendous. And I have no use of right arm (didn't have accident) but I'm overweight n maybe moved wrong way in bed or lifted one of my puppies (15 pounds). What are my chances of coming out better, if I cannot afford the best surgeon? How can I possibly check the surgeon I'm assigned to and make sure he's not being sued for malpractice in one of these surgeries? I'm really scared and this is not the only problem I'm dealing with physically. Being that I belong to an HMO in Miami, how could I find the best surgeon I would have access to? What to ask him? I live with lots of pain; even an intrathecal pump with Dilaudid for my spinal stenosis which can't be operated and they decided to control pain that way. I was always into sports until I got sick, 8 years ago. Now I can't get dress, cook, bathe, dry myself, brush my teeth. Worse part, left arm is starting to hurt now too. No problems with any drugs or anesthesia and no allergies.

Can anyone inform me how I can better my chances for this surgery???
