Copyvio?[edit]

This image was originally uploaded to Commons on 2012-10-11. Please see this claim that other sources have copied from Commons. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 14:34, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reuploading the picture! As stated in the talkpage discussion, the website madamasr.com credits the Wikimedia Commons as the source of the Charlie Hebdo HQ picture that is on its website (Archived image to preserve the record, and a double-archive where it was archived first to the Wayback Machine and then to Webcitation). Conclusion and synoptics of a long story[edit]

@WhisperToMe:. I am the uploader. I took this photo on 11 october 2012 with a camera CANON G10. I have the original file of 1,85 Mbyte with EXIF data. I uploaded it to Commons the sameday. For me, it was an ordinary building.
But of 12 february 2015, it was deleted from Commons for violating no FOP#France, after regular discussion, because the building seemed to be original for some people.
So I uploaded a photo to French and English wikipedia for fair use in the article about the newspaper Charlie Hebdo. In low definition as requested (71 kbyte).
But my original photo on Commons has been used by an external site : http://www.madamasr.com/tags/charlie-hebdo
So as my photo on english wikipedia was smaller than the photo of the site, I was accused of copyvio. It was a speedy deletion procedure, I did not have any time to explain the situation.
Happily, my photo was restored. Thanks to User:WhisperToMe.

The worst is that this photo is the head office of Charlie hebdo in 2012. Not in 2015 during the attacks of january. The usage in the external site is wrong. --Tangopaso (talk) 17:14, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I added 2015 since the picture is also being used to illustrate that attack. Yes, the picture was taken in 2012, but it's being used as illustration for both the 2012 and 2015 attacks. WhisperToMe (talk) 17:24, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
