Nice image and I applaud the work you've put in however I am not sure if this line of reasoning is valid or just a hypothesis. Firstly, in my understanding the original text is only about the Indian Ocean and not all Austronesian voyaging. Secondly, I believe the author is professionally a linguist rather than a naval historian per se. Thirdly, strong sources such as this one (1845) demonstrate a complex mix of traditional styles. Finally, I am not aware of any academic agreement with respect to a linear 'succession'. As this paper was published in 1999 I would expect a larger amount of discussion or citations if it had any academic credence, this is apparently not the case. prat (talk) 18:08, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
