is this a juvenile?[edit]

This is a great photo of a fairy-wren! I've done some work on superb fairy-wrens and I believe this is a juvenile due to two things:

  1. yellow (and "fleshy"-looking) area on the basal part of the bill - a remnant of the wide yellow gape of nestlings
  2. the thickness of the legs - most juveniles have thicker tarsi (and often lighter) than adults, until the scales dry out

Purple fringing[edit]

This is an excellent picture, but there is just a TAD of purple fringing by the end of the tail and just above the beak. I suggest you desaturated the purple in that color range to remove the fringing. Althepal 04:53, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
