World-writeable?[edit]

This is authentic? And Ritchie, co-creator of Unix, had a world-writeable home directory? This is bogus. — Preceding undated comment added 2015-08-25

It's from The Unix Heritage Society, so it's authentic. Not all the settings are necessarily exactly as they would have been back in the day, though. The file permissions were probably changed in the process of making archives / backups. The passwords have also been cleared. The system appears to be in basic working order, though. Some earlier Unix distributions still have a home directory for Ken Thompson instead ("/usr/ken"). Huihermit (talk) 14:28, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I do not confirm presence of this directory, on the other hand there is dmr user account specified with this home dir, also even (empty) mail spool file (at least in their published uv7swre image). And when it's claimed that it's the part of this operating system, one should realize, that it might have been the only instance/installation of it at a time. —Mykhal (talk) 07:31, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
.. that was for unix_v7_rl.dsk from uv7swre.zip. There's also smaller image unix_v7_rk.dsk in uv7swre.tar.Z, but that one even does not have /usr. So I don't know which TUHS "authentic" image was used. regards, —Mykhal (talk) 08:36, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
