Isaac, old and blind, wants to bless his eldest son before he dies. He sends Esau to hunt meat and prepare a meal, after which he would receive his blessing. Rebeccah overhears this exchange. She instructs Jacob to fetch two goats, prepares a meal, and commands him to bring the meal to Isaac to receive the blessing. She places goatskins over his neck and arms to fool Isaac, and he blesses Jacob. Esau swears to kill Jacob as soon as his father is dead.
