The List of retired Pacific hurricane names includes seven Pacific hurricane names that were removed due to their damage. Since 1960, 11 storms have had their names removed, including two from the Central Pacific and two being removed for political considerations. Hurricane Kenna of 2002, which peaked as a Category 5 hurricane and made landfall on southwestern Mexico as a Category 4 hurricane, was the strongest of the storms to be retired. Hurricane Pauline of 1997 was the deadliest on the list when it killed over 200 people in southern Mexico. Hurricane Iniki, the strongest hurricane to strike the state of Hawaii, was retired due to its damage total of several billion dollars, at the time among the costliest United States hurricanes.
