It seems that many of the references (mostly NBC) are not available outside the US. Is this ok or should other references globally available be found? Guest2008 (talk) 23:10, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page structure

Just to let people know, I'm tentatively hoping to use a similar structure this season to what was used last season for the page. That means that, initially, each preliminary audition episode gets it's own section, listing those who did and did not get moved forward. As the show moves into the call-backs, all who perform on a particular call-back or are eliminated on it are migrated out of their preliminary episode to the call-back episode, with new bullet points for their actions in the call-backs. As things move forward, those that are eliminated are left behind in the episode of their final performance, and those that continue to move on collect larger and larger sections detailing the history of their appearance. See the second season page to see how this ends up, and glance through it's history to see what the page looked like in earlier stages.

I also plan to use the same format for referencing specific episodes, as that worked out very well last year. And I plan to continue to link in the specific performances from the NBC web site for whatever performances NBC decides to place there.

Brasswell vs Drasswell

Both summaries use "Brasswell". The Express News piece from weeks back uses "Brasswell". But the NBC web site video clips section lists him as "Drasswell" instead. The clip itself starts after the point at which his name was displayed, so it's hard to know in retrospect which was displayed, but given that both summary sites used Brasswell, and RNO in particular tends to take the names directly from the screen as much as possible, I suspect that the name Brasswell was used on-screen. Given all this, I'm inclined to stick with Brasswell and not Drasswell. Whichever it really is will certainly be settled in the next few weeks, so long term this'll be a non-issue. - TexasAndroid (talk) 15:13, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vegas eliminations

Have they always eliminated a group of performers in the Vegas semifinals without ever seeing those performers do a second performance (as happened on the August 5, 2008 program)? Badagnani (talk) 01:14, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Callbacks who were not shown on the Audition Shows

Added Michael Strelo-Smith. In my recollection, there were others shown who were not shown in the audition rounds, but named and referenced in the callback round. Does anyone have a list of those people? MrDiGeorge (talk) 08:17, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm waiting for the RNO summary to be posted, and I'll get as many names as I can from it. I suspect it may be a little leaner on names than usual, though, as unlike the prelims, this episode did not show name on-screen as each act performed. It was that on-screen names that allowed RNO to include even the names of acts shown breifly in montages in the prelims, and thus allowed me to get those names from the RNO summaries. Without those, I suspect that the summary this time will not have nearly as many names. Added Cat Williams, wanted to add Mia but did not know her last name or remember the song she sang. Phooey on me for deleting it off my DVR box. Another thing to be careful about (which I'm sure you already know), is that when we are speaking of crossdressers, transsexuals or transgenders, we need to use the pronoun of the way that their dressed. For instance, When we use the pronoun to discuss Derrick, we need to use "she". Unless my teacher roots have failed me... or there's a WikiStandard on this... I did not really know. I'm not that familiar with that segment of culture.  :) I actually sat here for several minutes debating in my mind which way to go, including the gender-plural "hir". Obviously I chose wrong. In the grand scheme, an (I hope) fairly innocuous and innocent wrong. Oh well. Unknowns

Just a side note about the Unknowns section. This section will be gone after Thursday night's episode. After that episode we will be down to 40 acts remaining, and will know who those 40 are. For those that do not make the 40, there may be some that we never know for certain at which point in the callbacks they were eliminated. And in the grand scheeme it's not that critical where each one left. 73 acts will be eliminated total, many of whom we many never see, and we'll list as best we can where those we know about were eliminated. Season 2 had a very similar situation, and we ended up with several "Presumed eliminated" for acts we saw in the prelims, never saw in the callbacks, but knew did not make it to the live shows. - TexasAndroid (talk) 19:19, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal links for contestant

It was mentioned above whether it was OK to add links to personal web site of the contestants. I will note for the following that I am speaking as an editor, *not* as an admin, and that I am so heavily invested in the AGT pages that I should not even try to give an admin-viewed opinion on them in general. :)

If, for whatever reason, a contestant has a page on the project, linking to that should take precedence over any external links. External links would then go on the contestant's own project page.

If they are without a project page, I have generally not made a big deal over having a single link to an external page placed under their main name on the page. See last year's season page for many of these. Strictly speaking, if someone wanted to raise a fuss, those links may very well not be appropriate. But it's not a battle I personally cared enough about to wage. So, while I in general have never gone out of my way to add such external links, neither have I removed them. - TexasAndroid (talk) 19:44, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Xclusive

Xclusive - Kenneth Parrio, I believe he was in the group with the children variety act. Although he was not seen performing, I think he was in the back when the child contortionist and the dancer were eliminated (put through with the baton twirler and one more, who escapes me.)

The Pendragons

I know the point is soon moot, but I know that AGT is being a bit "misinformative" by saying that all of the people in a said group are together. With that being said, in the Opera/Classical group, there were 6 different acts (Shequida Hall, Neal Boyd, Jonathan Wright, Emily Frake, Donald Braswell, Michael Stelo Smith) yet, when they came up as a group, it was only *4* of them (minus Wright and Frake). Unless there's photo evidence of the Pendragons (similar to XClusive?), I'd be wary to put them in. but, who knows? Donald Braswell

Keep in mind that reliable news sources have shown that Donald Braswell has sung opera professionally with the San Antonio Symphony, in a production of Camelot, and has also performed recently with a group called San Antonio Three Tenors.[2] When he says he hadn't sung professionally before his first time before the judges, apparently he meant "not as his main profession," as he was selling cars as his main job when he did the San Antonio Three Tenors performance. However, if he was paid for the San Antonio Three Tenors performance, it was a professional performance, hence we can't repeat the fictional account propagated by the producers of AGT. One act is going to be added for the injury to the russian bar trio. That is listed as the wild card act and the people up for it are at the bottom of the eliminated list. He was not shown performing, but he was shown breifly in one of the "accepted" montages in the second callback episode, practically prancing down the steps, trombone in hand, after being told he was going through. :) - TexasAndroid (talk) 19:48, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No idea if this is correct, but we just had an IP label the unknown kid act as "The Wright Kids", and move Kazual down from being eliminated, to being Top 40. I presume that the implication is that they are the missing Top 40 act. Do we leave these changes? Who supposedly noticed Kazual in the "Did not perform" elimination group? Sigh. I guess the good thing is, if all 40 acts perform by next Wednesday, this'll all be moot be then, as we'll see for certain if/when they each perform. - TexasAndroid (talk) 15:03, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Found one source for the information. This link to NBC's own AGT discussion board, has one of the moderators there posting publicity pictures for the semifinals, with various acts, all in similar black outfits, all against the same background. He sources the information/photos to "NBC Universal Media Village". Kazual is definitely one of them, and he labels the kid group as The Wright Kids. He also lists/shows a photo for Cadence. Assuming this is all correct, and with the photots I at least am hard pressed to question it, then we now have our full Top 40, excepting the Wildcard winner of course. - TexasAndroid (talk) 15:18, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semifinal #1 - "As made famous by..."

Fixed many of the links, but ran into an issue when describing the song "Beat It", which was performed by the Cadence. It did NOT seem like it was the original version of the Michael Jackson song, yet the version of Footloose (performed by the DC Cowboys) seemed to be Kenny Loggins. I included "as made famous by" in the wiki, please let me know how you want to handle this in the future.

We have exactly the same issue with the Texas State Strutters' preliminary performance. EW&F made "September" famous, but the version that TSS danced to was definitely not the EW&F version. An anon changed it a while back to a performer I had never heard of, someone else changed it back to EW&F a while later. I left it alone, having no clue as to who really did the version that they used. Fix effort needed

We have a major clean-up effort needed, on this page and possibly the Season 2 page. NBC appears to have majorly reorganized their video links. I'm hoping all the videos are still there, but the old links now appear to generally go to a season recap video. An effort needs to be made to find the new URL for each link and get it re-inserted into the page. I'll find time for it eventually, if noone else does, but cannot do much of it myself right now. Elimination box

Is this really useful? This show has far too many contestants to make such useful any earlier than this, but by now, when we are down to ten, we are also very, very close to the end. I believe from the NBC web page that the show is supposed to end on 10/2 or very near then. That would only give 3 weeks on the table, if even that, as I suspect there will be no eliminations next week, if it follows the pattern of the top ten from last year. We'll get performances, but no eliminations until the following week just before that week's performances. So overall, the table looks to me to likely be a waste of space and effort. Same for the copy on the main AGT page. But I wanted to get other's opinions rather than just removing it myself. - TexasAndroid (talk) 13:54, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would like to see it stay. It is easier to see what happened at a glance. It also adds a bit of color to the page. ZOOperstars! won this competition, NOT Neal E "dot" Boyd!

ZOOperstars! won the competition. Neal E "dot" Boyd, the rumoured "winner" of the competition, was eliminated in the Top 40 on the November 12, 2008 episode as the act was deemed a nuisance in the competition by all three judges and it received three X's from the judges. The ZOOperstars! were named the winner of the competition on January 28, 2009 and won $1,000,000 and a headline show in Las Vegas. The show is aired on MediaCorp Channel 5 from September 3, 2008 to January 28, 2009 in Singapore.

The episodes are pre-recorded before they are broadcast and not live. The dates you gave for the Top 40 shows onwards are simply the taping dates. The performance shows beginning from the Top 40 are shown from October 29, 2008 to January 28, 2009. The words "MediaCorp 5" appear on the top right hand corner of the screen during the show, not "MediaCorp 5 LIVE". Stop insisting that the show is broadcast live. Season 3 information???

The main America's Got Talent article states that season 3 is from June 17, 2008 and October 1, 2008 and Neal E. Boyd was the winner.

However, when I read this article, the article sometimes would state that Neal E. Boyd won the competition on October 1, 2008; sometimes it would state that ZOOperstars! won the competition on January 28, 2009 and that the show was broadcast on "MediaCorp Channel 5". Why is this happening and can someone tell me which is the true information and which is false information.
