Updates for infobox and introduction[edit]

Hello, I'm here to offer updates based on recent changes at Avaya. Last month, Avaya emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy, bringing with it a number of changes that make portions of this article out-of-date. Also, several parameters in the infobox have not been updated in a while, so they are certainly dated and should be revised (The company is now public; it has a stock symbol; it has a new CFO; there are 2017 figures available for revenue, operating income, net income, total assets and number of employees). To help do this, I have prepared revised text for the introduction and infobox. I'll explain my proposed changes and provide Wiki-formatted text below.

Introduction

Company description

Customer locations

  • Referring to "over one million customer locations worldwide, with operations divided globally into five regions" is inaccurate—and unsourced. The number of customer locations is 220,000, as per the company's "At a Glance PDF

Public company

Revised introduction

Avaya (/əˈv.ə/) is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Santa Clara, California that specializes in business communications, specifically unified communications, contact center, and services.[1][2] It serves organizations at 220,000 customer locations worldwide.[3] It was ranked No. 113 on Forbes' list of America's largest private companies in 2017.[4]

The company originated as a unit of Lucent Technologies, which was spun off from AT&T in 1995. Avaya was then spun off as its own company in 2000. It remained a public company from 2000 to 2007, when it was purchased by private equity firms. Avaya filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2017. It emerged from Chapter 11 on December 15, 2017. It again became a public company, trading under the stock ticker AVYA.

Infobox

My proposed infobox makes the following changes:

  • Changes company type to public
  • Adds stock symbol
  • Adds AT&T as a predecessor
  • Replaces the former CFO with current CFO Patrick O’Malley
  • Replaces 2014 financial figures with 2017 figures
  • Updates number of employees citing a Law360 story

Full disclosure: I am here on behalf of Avaya as part of my work with Beutler Ink. As I do have a financial COI, I do not intend to make any edits to the live article. My hope is that an uninvolved editor or editors are able to review my proposed updates and make edits as appropriate. @Miniapolis and Kendall-K1: Pinging you both as I see you've made helpful edits to update this page in the past, are still active, and might be interested to help with these changes. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 15:23, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Miniapolis for reviewing my request and making the infobox changes. Did you have any questions or feedback on the introduction updates? Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:25, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, although the Forbes and Law360 sources aren't open-access; Forbes wanted me to disable my adblocker and Law360 required registration, but neither is your fault :-). All the best, Miniapolis 17:39, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again and sorry to bug, Miniapolis: apologies if I'm being obtuse, but are you declining the introduction updates because you're not able to review those sources? Would it help for me to send you the text of them so you can check them both? Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:57, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I replaced the infobox, just noting that the sources were difficult to check (not your fault). All the best, Miniapolis 18:36, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think we might have crossed wires here, Miniapolis: I'd also suggested updates to the lede / introduction as well as to the infobox. Below is my suggestion again for the introduction. Could you take a peek? 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 18:55, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Done; sorry I missed it the first time. All the best, Miniapolis 15:13, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Miniapolis! And also to Kendall-K1 for that tweak to the Law 360 citation -- I wasn't aware of that "registration" parameter but it makes sense and I'll be sure to use from now on. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:05, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
