Someone want to talk in my Bar? Only Off-topic discussion :D --ReDM0oN 16:02, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted the BAR acronym for "bolt-action rifle". That is ridiculous, such a rifle is never referred to as a BAR. Not with the Browning Automatic Rifle in existence. User: Uriah is Boss—Preceding undated comment added at 00:13, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 27 March 2021[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved. In order to have a primary topic, the drinking establishment would need to be "much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined" for readers to be searching for. Most commentators here believe that this has not been shown. Disputes about the correct disambiguator of Bar (establishment) could be addressed by another RM. – No primary topic for Bar(s) by either criteria. In terms of usage the drinking establishment gets 11,793 views but Bar (unit) has more (19,709), Bar (music) has 7,749, Bar (law) has 6,162, Bar, Montenegro has 2,895, Bar (river morphology) has 1,052, Bar (diacritic) has 970 Chocolate bar has 25,355, Vertical bar has 18,906 and M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle has 31,210[[1]]. The Oxford Dictionary lists the wood/metal meaning then the drinking establishment. In terms of long-term significance although we don't appear to have a general article on wooden/metal bars we do have articles on things like chocolate and candy bars as well as Chin-up. The legal meaning is also very common and important since people commonly get a bars from the drinking establishments and the musical and unit meanings among the many other general and specific uses on the DAB clearly mean that there is no primary topic even if we discount the fact that the drinking establishment has been less common in the last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The article was moved in 2016 apparently without discussion. Other options for the target include Bar (drinking establishment) or Bar (business). • Support moving the disambiguation page, as there is no primary topic. I have no better suggestion for the title of the drinking establishment article, and no objection to either (establishment) or (drinking establishment). I'm slightly less happy about, but not strongly opposed to, (business). Cnilep (talk) 03:43, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination and Cnilep. WP:NOPRIMARYTOPIC. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 23:55, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The article refers to a bar as "a long raised narrow table or bench designed for dispensing beer or other alcoholic drinks" rather than a type of business. WaddlesJP13 (talk) 07:07, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well the 1st proposed title is establishment (the former title before 2016) not business but I have no strong opinion on the qualifier just that there isn't a primary topic. Crouch, Swale (talk) 08:25, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. No primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:23, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The nom's page view analysis was over 2 weeks (13/03/2021 - 02/04/2021). A longer-term view over "all time" (actually 01/07/2015 - 02/04/2021) [2] shows a very different story. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 10:49, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Shhhnotsoloud: well if you look at this[[3]] over all time (which only shows the establishment and unit) shows that in the last 6 years the unit has had more pageviews for around 4 of those 5 years (ignoring the 1st since that's before the move to the base name) but for some reason there was a spike in mid 2018 and in 2019 including a time when it got over 25,000 views. Looking though the history I can't see any pagemoves after the January 2016 one when the establishment was moved to the basename that otherwise may have caused the views to be shifted. Unless we can answer why there were spikes I think we can overall assume that there's no primary topic by usage as well as long-term significance. Merge proposal[edit]

I propose merging Sci Fi (Slovenian TV channel) and Sci Fi (Serbian TV channel) into one single page called Sci Fi (Balkan tv channel). I checked out all of the schedules of that pages (https://scifi.si/ https://scifi.rs/), together with Sci Fi (Poland TV channel) (https://scifiuniversal.pl/) and they all broadcast the same programs and movies. And this source (https://web.archive.org/web/20100923105753/http://www.digitaltveurope.net/news_articles/sep_09/16_sep_09/sci_fi_channel_to_launch_in_balkans) clearly explains channel's launch in all Balkans area, not only Slovenia and Serbia but even Bosnia, Croatia and Montenegro. For these reasons, I think the content in at least the first two pages (Slovenia and Serbia) should be merged. 79.21.5.205 (talk) 10:24, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Support For merging together Sci Fi (Slovenian TV channel) and Sci Fi (Serbian TV channel). What would be wrong though, is including info about the Polish channel into the proposed article as Poland is not on Balkans so a rename would be probably better. A09 (talk) 15:13, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@A09 so how could I rename the page? Something like Sci Fi (Polish and Balkans TV channel) could be OK? 79.21.5.205 (talk) 18:18, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is the talk page for the Bar disambiguation page. Why are you proposing this merger of pages that have no apparent relevance to the term 'bar' on this talk page? olderwiser 17:53, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Moreover, you have not placed a notice on either of the articles you want to merge. Please read Wikipedia:Merging and start over. Donald Albury 20:50, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Donald Albury I am anonymous, that was the reason why I didn't placed the notices on the pages I wanted to merge. Am I wrong? 79.21.5.205 (talk) 14:13, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Neither of the pages is protected, so you should be able to edit them, including placing the appropriate notices on them, following the instructions at the page I linked above. The discussion on this page won't count, so don't link it when you propose the merge on the target pages. Donald Albury 17:07, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@A09 @Bkonrad @Donald Albury Sorry, I misunderstood the instructions on Wikipedia:Merging and I wrote on the wrong page. Now I wrote on the correct one: Talk:Sci Fi (Slovenian TV channel). 79.21.5.205 (talk) 20:21, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
