Effects of Bracero Program

:: I don't plan to continue the effects of the Bracero Program on illegal immigration, so I encourage anyone to add to that information. I've added a brief section on the effect on working conditions of agricultural workers after the end of the Program allowed workers to finally unionize. Calcantar (talk) 08:24, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Untitled section

I added an update on the Bracero Program's effect on immigration towards the end of the Significance and Effects of the program. It isn't finished, and I plan to devote more time and effort into developing this section. However, please feel free to make more edits. I thought it was a topic that wasn't extensively covered in the article and wanted to add to it.Calcantar (talk) 06:59, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Murphy

In the popular culture section, reference is made to Sen. Murphy's racist gaffe. The citation is a Wiki link on Murphy's "infamous racist gaffe." That link is simply to Murphy's Wik site. Searching that site, I found in the Legacy section "Murphy was the subject of a song by Tom Lehrer included on his album That Was the Year That Was with the same name, which criticized Murphy's comments about Mexicans working in the US." Going to the link for the song (George Murphy (incl. The George Murphy Campaign Song and addenda) – Tom Lehrer Songs_), I listened to the song. Simply from the song, it is not clear what Murphy said (Lehrer has the right and tendency to reformulate people and positions he statirizes), but I could not see or hear anything racist -- demeaning Mexicans, yes, but Mexican is not a race. 2600:6C67:1C00:5F7E:482D:3C67:4E90:9419 (talk) 01:00, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

Compensation

The source cited for the compensation that ex-braceros can (in theory) get from the Mexican government is at odds with what is said on "My Uncle Juan, the Bracero" By DAISY CONTRERAS OCT 20, 2023 on "Latino USA"(NPR). The first source says up to $3,500, whereas the latter says a flat $3,000. 2600:6C67:1C00:5F7E:482D:3C67:4E90:9419 (talk) 01:12, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
