Untitled section[edit]

Are CPLDs actually used for bootstrapping FPGAs? I'd thought that was almost exclusively done using external serial PROMs and dedicated bootstrap hardware on the FPGAs (and via on-board microprocessor for the few widgets built to be in-flight reconfigurable). --Christopher Thomas 04:33, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I've done both. Using the dedicated FPGA bootstrap hardware and an FPGA-vendor EEPROM works, but it can complicate field upgrading. My newer products use a CPLD to feed the FPGA configuration from a flash. Overall it is cheaper, as I can use the flash for other purposes as well. N Norder 16:37, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sum of products versus disjunctive normal form[edit]

I notice that sum-of-products is directed to disjunctive normal form. While disjunctive normal form is a boolean sum (or) of a boolean product (and), I would not consider them synonymous; rather sum-of-products expressions is a category which disjunctive normal form forms an example of. In any case, perhaps someone who knows the proper Wikipedia conventions for linking similar and/or synonymous topics could clean this up? mjscud 18:42, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

I honestly don't know what either term means, but I'd love to learn, unforunately, I have to concur, the misleading way the articles are linked up, seems to me that the information is just plain missing. Very dissapointing. BrainSlugs83 (talk) 08:55, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A section called "Market Leaders" was added by 204.245.209.24 (talk · contribs). I've changed its name to something a bit less advertising-like, and added additional entries, but it would really help if someone familiar with all of the comanies involved could expand the section to be more like Field-programmable_gate_array#Some_FPGA_manufacturers_and_their_specialties. --Christopher Thomas 05:49, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Macro Cell[edit]
