Not eligible for DYK at this time.

  • ... that Dominican Republic recently got area and managed to annex dominica?

  • Not only is Dominican Republic ineligible for DYK (not a 5x expansion, was not brought to GA within the last seven days), but the proposed hook is patently false. The Dominican Republic has not annexed Dominica: the two countries aren't even close to each other, so such an annexation is unlikely. Forcefully annexed by Haiti?[edit]

According to this article, 'the newly independent Dominicans were forcefully annexed by Haiti in February 1822'. However, if you read the article on the Dominican War of Independence, you find something rather different:

Haiti's president, Jean-Pierre Boyer, a mulatto who was seen as an ally promised his full support to the frontier governors, and thus he ceremoniously entered the country with around 10,000 soldiers in February 1822, after most of the cities and towns proclaimed their allegiance to Boyer between November 1821 and January 1822. On February 9, 1822, Boyer formally entered the capital city, Santo Domingo, where he was received by Núñez who offered to him the keys of the Palace. Boyer rejected the offer, while saying: "I have not come into this city as a conqueror but by the will of its inhabitants". The island was thus united from "Cape Tiburon to Cape Samana in possession of one government."

I will not make the alteration myself since I don't know enough about the period, but it does seem that this article is incorrect at present. If someone knows more, I ask them to comment, or go on to make the change if they are confident they are right. LastDodo (talk) 13:12, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There are no citations to any of that, and it seems to have been placed without citation multiple times across wikipedia. If there is no actual citation for the information and it cannot be verified, then it seems to be an attempt to place artificial information for ulterior motive. 2600:4040:5205:CC00:D93A:3243:76AB:7CB8 (talk) 20:59, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To add, the same uncited blurb has been placed under the title "Unification of Hispaniola" multiple times in wikipedia, under related topics such as the one you linked or Jean-Pierre Boyer, all without any attempt to give a verifiable source. 2600:4040:5205:CC00:D93A:3243:76AB:7CB8 (talk) 21:01, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright well I slapped a bunch of 'Citation Needed's onto that bit of text from the other article, maybe that will prompt someone to add sources. LastDodo (talk) 17:57, 22 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Need source on natural disasters[edit]

The end of the introduction mentions that the country is highly vulnerable to natural disasters but no source is given. Freddyaboulton (talk) 14:34, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The ethnicity/race section of demographics disagrees with other articles that touch on the same topic, Some cite sources from the CIA World Factbook and historical Dominican sources. These have different ethnicity/race estimations than most sources. I suggest using the UN Population Fund which is more exact, updated, and impartial.  Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Shadow311 (talk) 14:34, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Population[edit]

Hi, just noticed a discrepancy. The page for the Dominican Republic lists it as the second most populous country in the Antilles following Haiti. However Cuba's page lists Cuba as the second most populous country in the Caribbean. Since Cuba is also in the Antilles, these statements are not congruous. 2003:C0:DF33:E900:2DFC:D08B:591E:1244 (talk) 14:15, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
