Notes by Caravaca[edit]

Started cleaning this up and expanding it today. I have a larger article in preparation. Caravaca 18:47, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Have finished adding my expansion. Things I'm not happy with:

  • Introduction: could do with a statement about the ranking of educational purposes relative to other reasons why people use computers - but cannot find any surveys to quote at the moment.
  • Products and suppliers: a largely inherited bunch of things, some of which I'd get rid of completely if I was bold enough. Not sure whether to expand or shrink.

Keep up the good work! Cormaggio @ 11:23, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested Move of Software Titles[edit]

I think this article would be better, more comprehensive, more corherent, and less prone to spam if all mention of software titles is moved to a new article, which I am about to create, "List of Educational Software," similar to the fairly comprehensive "list of bitmap graphics editors". Since the article is generally about educational software, it makes sense to me to reference software companies, or categories of software, i.e. touch-typing instruction software, without the need to mention a specific product, which would instead appear under on the 'list'. -- Dialectric

I don't agree. Without examples, any text on any subject tends to become abstract and incomprehensible. Imagine a book on dinosaurs which didn't have any pictures and didn't mention any particular species. Imagine that your dinosaur book just talked about evolution and archaeological methodology.
The line between "informative use of examples" and "rampant commercialism" is a fine one, for which a chainsaw execution of all commercial links is insufficiently subtle. The definition of a useful link should follow the Wikipedia guidelines on things such as "notability". I'd suggest that my method of 2-3 notables examples per category is a good way to go.
I do however agree that the lists towards the end of the article could be exported. Some kind person has already removed the ones that I wanted to get rid of (but didn't have the boldness to do so).

Edutainment?[edit]

I think that the portion on "Edutainment" should take into account the realities of game marketing. One sure way to ward off many gamers is to mention prominently that a game is education-focused.

The publishers of Sim City, Civilization, and other similar titles are doubtless aware of this and chose to stay away from the "Edutainment" label entirely for these and other reasons. Zupreme (talk) 19:13, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you have reliable sources that talk about that perspective, I can't see any reason why that couldn't be included here. WeisheitSuchen (talk) 21:19, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OOKids[edit]

I don't know what's up with the OOKids thing but it seems like it doesn't belong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by A3camero (talkcontribs) 17:45, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merge edutainment, educational game, and educational software[edit]

Hi everyone -- please read my discussion of the overlap between edutainment, educational game, and educational software at Talk:Edutainment#Merge edutainment, educational game, and educational software and leave your comments there. Thanks! CaseyPenk (talk) 13:19, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Additions[edit]

Hello, my name is TChoates and my team member is JMcCarter; and I am doing a college class project on Wikipedia and my group is assigned Educational software. We are to propose some suggestions based off of research we have done and things we have noticed from the page. One suggestion we thought could help the page would be to have a section of how the different types of Educational software could be connected to help and benefit each other. This would be one small thing that could be added to connect things that are already on the page. Thank you for reading this. --Tchoates (talk) 04:04, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

External links modified[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Educational software. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Add new section for Science Demonstrations or Demonstrations in general[edit]

In the past decade software and tools for demonstrating lab experiments and other phenomenon have exploded in use, I believe it will be pertinent to add a section either titled Demonstration Software or Science Software. Duplo surrogate (talk) 19:37, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I ended up writing a small section with what I think could be added, let me know if I need more or should re-evaluate!Duplo surrogate (talk) 17:27, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
