Nomenclature[edit]

I retired after 44 years with IBM, starting in 1968.

It was beaten into our brains as a tech, that IBM direct access storage devices ("DASD") was addressed by MBBCCHHR = Module, bin, bin, Cylinder, cylinder, head, head, record (where repeated fields mean 16-bit).

In this document there is reference to "ØBBSCH", which I can not find referenced anywhere. So I added a little point that the leading 0 could be replaced by another digit, the module ("box") number, the first being 0 etc.

The existing link explains that the generic OS level address MBBCCHHR, translates into a 0BBSCH which as stated in a footnote differs from the generic BBCCHH Tom94022 (talk) 17:54, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
