Agree that it is J now, but not previously[edit]

Kevin, I agree with the details of Micro\

According to Microsoft's Xbox website[edit]

According to most sources it's "J Allard". This includes Microsoft's Xbox website. K

At it again[edit]

Yep, someone's at it again tonight, trying to re-write the facts. I guess all that info about how the Xbox team were once visited by a BBC TV crew is just pure vandalism, rather than historical fact. Methinks at an intern at MGS's PR firm (Edelman) is paid just to monitor this pages and delete any mention of things that would reflect badly on its client and the egos of those who work for them. Perhaps someone should check the IP addresses of where these regular "alterations" originate from. You might discover something interesting.

Jay or J[edit]

He used the moniker "Jay" sometimes in those days as a nickname, much like one would call their friend Mike instead of Michael. I know this because I was James' roommate back in his BU days. But for the record, I can attest that his name was not just simply "J". In all honestly, I can't remember anyone referring to him as just "J". I wonder if this article was changed by a Microsoft image consultant?

I'm not arguing that his real name wasn't James. But he definitely went by J (specifically "J", not "Jay") since well, well before his Microsoft days. His login at BU was "j", he signed all of his e-mails "J", etc. Perhaps it was a transitional thing during the BU days, but this was the case as of 1990/91 at BU.

Name change[edit]

The section about J's name change is somewhat misleading, since he went by J since at least the late 1980s (I went to BU with him, so I do know this for a fact, although I know this doesn't qualify as referencable information). I think the article should clarify this point, rather than implying that J suddenly changed his name on a whim (or the even sillier implication that it was part of an image change).

Agreed on the details of his personal transformation.[edit]

I agree with the previous poster, and think that it does not make any sense to remove the information regarding James Allard transformation into J. I think that accurate information regarding the individual will allow viewers of wikipedia to be better informed on the subject in question. To remove it from this article no different than historical revisionism and mutes out relevant information.

J Allard's "Style Tragedy"[edit]

The link to James Allard's "transformation" into "J" is totally relevant to an article about "J". If this were an article about XBox, then no, it wouldn't be relevant. Does Bill Clinton's wiki article talk about the Monica Lewinsky scandal? Such personal details should definitely be included when painting an accurate depiction of the article's subject.

>>he has gone by "J" since the late 80's. if you're going to post information, at least get it right. not sure that college nicknames qualify as "style tragedies"

Why is the "old" photo of "James" being removed, and who is removing it? Microsoft? And why is the "controversy" content continously being removed? (This is a primarily rhetorical question.)

To the people from SW[edit]

Please refrain yourselves from vandalizing Wikipedia's articles, that's why you have the forums at gamespot.

weasel words[edit]

I removed the weasel words paragraph ("many think..."). Wikipedia:Avoid_weasel_words for more details

Famous Memo[edit]

Can anyone find and post a link to the legendary "Windows: The Next Killer Application on the Internet" memo? The text should be in Wikipedia somewhere, although perhaps WikiSource is the appropriate place for that (I'm not too familiar with that wiki). I would have added it, had I found it, but all I could ascertain was the title! Venicemenace 7/11/06

youtube link[edit]

Just a minor thing here: what exactly is the use of that "artist's rendition of James' transformation to J" link? Other than somebody trying to get up his counter, I don't see what anyone would get from this 5-second-morph. Anyone? --5amsara 06:17, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree with the changes[edit]

It is quite obvious to me at least that James "J" Allard pages were more informative before the changes that took place recently. The entire point of the encylopedia is to inform the reader of all facts and let them decide for themselves whether it is relevant and important. By obfuscating this information, you are taking the liberty of the individual to discern this information.

No. Information in the encyclopedia must be verifiable in reliable published sources. Speculation is not fact. —Centrxtalk • 01:49, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

real name[edit]

J Allard (his real name; formerly James Allard)

Well, we know it's not a fake name. I suggest "real name" be changed to "legal name," to distinguish it from a nickname (which are very real). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.241.238.142 (talk) 02:35, 28 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

TCP/IP and IETF work[edit]

Maybe some mention also needs to be made about Allard's contribution to the TCP/IP support in Windows. He was also part of the IETF during the formulation process of RFC 1682 and RFC 1752. He was also part of the Windows NT team under Dave Cutler.

Is this really encyclopedic?[edit]

"Some have gone as far as to say he looks like he comes from the future, and have speculated that, if true, he must already know that the Zune turned out to be a failure." I am removing it, if someone disagrees, let me know --Mandelbug 22:45, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why it is protection ?[edit]

Somebody add interwiki: cs:J Allard --Zacatecnik 11:25, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Already done. Thanks. In the future you can use {{editprotected}} to get a faster response (or a response at all) on a protected page. —Centrxtalk • 17:43, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Internet[edit]

Funny how Allard is credited with forseeing the rise of Johnny Interweb and shaping MS' response to it, given that the company thought the internet was a fad and jumped late on to the browser bandwagon. 86.17.211.148 (talk) 19:26, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't Allard most famous for the Microsoft Kin? Currently there's no mention of it in this article. --Lester 02:43, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
