?[edit]

Does anyone know the Metro population's of all the area's that say N/A, or whether they do not have a Metropolitan Area?

here is a list, but I personally think it should instead give the population for the primary city in the metro area (e.g. Seattle for the Seattle/Tacoma metro area), and then for those cities within that metro area (i.e. Bellevue in the Seattle/Tacoma metro) list the metro area it is part of instead of the population. Then you should edit the Page! Plus thanks for the link! User:Missoulian 9:26, 12 December 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.217.138.136 (talk)

Re-correct[edit]

I am going to re-correct this page to make it easier for the public to use, and read. I will add the population of each city with its Metropolitan Area, (except for cities where its Metropolitan area is based on a bigger city such as: Seattle-Tacoma Metro area to Seattle, and not based on Seattle-Tacoma Metro area to Bellevue, Wa).

If anyone would not like this change please respond a better result.

Rationale[edit]

Can anyone give a good rationale why this page is needed? It appears to be an orphan, indicating that the information is not generally useful anywhere else. It also appears to be overly specific, concentrating only on a single vaguely defined region of North America. As there are not similar lists for other regions of the United States, Canada or North America at large, it is not clear why there should be a list for this region. I think thats why someone made this page. For one its beacuse this region of the United States holds some of the Largest cities in the U.S, like Seattle, and Portland. I think this list is just providing good information, and there is no other page/article on wikipedia like this one (that I could find). User:Missoulian 11:58, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can't say that I understand this response. I listed reasons that the page should not exist, and Missoulian tells me that those reasons are why the page should exist. That doesn't answer the question at all.
Further, Missoulian claims that this list is important because the Pacific Northwest holds some of the United States' largest cities. I beg to differ. As the region's largest city, Seattle ranks only 23rd nationally, meaning most of the cities on this list rank far below the rank of "largest cities in the United States". Since regions that do contain the country's largest cities (the Northeast and South) do not have their own lists, why should the Pacific Northwest? The page is only six days old, so I think it's much too early to read much into the fact that it is linked from very few other articles yet; however, adding such links is something its creator and defender (Missoulian) should do as soon as possible. In my opinion, the fact or claim (which I've not taken time to verify) that other regions lack such lists is not any reason against having one for the Pacific Northwest, so I don't think Missoulian needed to offer any defense against that (non-)argument. Maybe after this one-week-old article has been up for awhile and becomes linked from other articles, other Wikipedians will create similar lists for other regions of the U.S., but if that does not happen, it might simply indicate a lack of interest of Wikipedians in those regions in taking up that task and not a lack of interest in the subject matter. The argument this this list is "overly specific" makes no sense to me. It needs additional citations, but I see no good reason to question whether it's worth including. Proposed merge[edit]

The Pacific Northwest article already has a section about the region's largest cities. There is no information in this article (other than some prose that does not significantly expand on the table information) that is not already in the prior existing article. Rather than maintain two separate articles with the same information, I propose that the list at Pacific Northwest be allowed to remain (and possible expanded to 25 cities, as it presently only lists the top 16), and this page be redirected to that page. Objections? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:20, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In the absences of any discussion to the contrary, merge has been completed. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:58, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion was closed much too early. It should have been left open at least two weeks, not five days – and during a holiday period, when some interested persons might be travelling or busy with family stuff. However, personally, I had no strong opinion one way or the other as to the merits of the merge proposal. I probably would have supported it, but I hadn't had time to evaluate it, and it's moot now. Still no further discussion. I'll consider this discussion closed and will proceed (again) with the merge. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
