Article title[edit]

  • Although I thought the use of the term mobsters might seem a bit "Americanized" , it was the most simplified title I could think of at the moment. I would encourage future editors to move the article to a more accurate name if applicable. MadMax 22:33, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not alphabetical[edit]

Reference[edit]

Firstly if an article doesn't not have references unambiguous establishing someones criminal status we should not be linking to them from this page.

Secondly there seems to be some argument that we should duplicate references from listed articles on this page. I am not seeing the rationale for this, it's something that is better done on article pages than on list pages and I see no reason why this page should be a special case, and so have removed the unreferenced tag. Artw (talk) 19:32, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blanked[edit]

Blanked -- unless and until strong reliable sourcing is used, nothing should be added here. Collect (talk) 14:58, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All entries pertaining to living people myust be BLP compliant. We should use the Afd to populate the article with reliably sourced entries. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 18:44, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have checked through the list and see nothing but poperly reffed articles and dead people. No BLP rationale exists for removing either. Artw (talk) 20:22, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Stop being ridiculous, there is not one single ref there. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 20:23, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

BLP noticeboard[edit]

Suggested page move[edit]

Now that this article has survived AfD, I'd like to gauge consensus for moving this to a differently named page. In essence, I'm not comfortable with the word 'mobster'. In the Afd I suggested List of British gangsters, List of British gang members, or List of British gang leaders. Any thoughts? Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 02:00, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mobsters is an American name and so inappropriate. I think gangsters would be the best option. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 22:27, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, gangsters, I agree with you. Is Britain a gang free place - have there only been a few gangsters there - five? - not much of a list is it? or is there a lot more gangsters and the article just wants expanding? Govindaharihari (talk) 07:11, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It was longer but the other entries were unsourced, so they got removed during the AfD because of BLP concerns. Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 08:02, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The other entries should be restored, being all dead people. I'll do it when I get some sit down time with a real computer. TBH it's misleading to state that any of the entries on the list lack references - the debate has been over the necessity of duplicating them in the list versus references in the listed article being sufficient. Artw (talk) 14:22, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Again, that's never been the issue. But I'll copy over the references from the linked article for the hard of clicking. Artw (talk) 15:04, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Even "dead people" require reliable sourcing for such claims. Cheers. Collect (talk) 14:48, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah they need sourcing in the list as well as the articles. Feel free to add them back in whenever you get chance; I'll do it myself when I get time. Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 19:06, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps: British persons reported to be leaders of criminal organisations might work? Collect (talk) 13:53, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

British leaders of criminal organisations is shorter - but makes the sourcing needed stronger as well. Collect (talk) 19:48, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What are you claiming, Dylanfromthenorth? That we dont need to source entries in a list because we magicaly "assume" any sources we require are to be found in the articles is not a credible argument, and I dont understand why you persist in weilding it. All entries should be reliably sourced in this list article itself. I certainly can go with British leaders of criminal organisations. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 01:10, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your ire is misdirected SqueakBox; if you re-read the above you'll see I said "Yeah they need sourcing in the list as well as the articles.". Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 18:28, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Support change to List of British gangsters, I see no need to change the criterea of list. Artw (talk) 01:39, 11 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose anything with the over-specific "leaders" as that's only going to demand pointless hair-splitting over who qualifies as a "leader". Would we remove well-sourced assassins, notable enforcers, and significant second-in-commands? Criminals are independently notable for more things than holding a single position in an informal hierarchy. __ E L A Q U E A T E 15:52, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This seems pretty unanimous as far as changing "mobster" to "gangster" goes, I have gone ahead and moved the page. Artw (talk) 17:22, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to Elaqueate for changing it from title case - doh! Artw (talk) 17:37, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem.__ E L A Q U E A T E 17:39, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • This was added - I can't find verification or nothing about him in search engines so I moved it here for others to check out/is he really a well known British gangster? Govindaharihari (talk) 06:32, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
For the most part we're sticking to people who have their own Wikipedia articles and so clearly meet WP:N, so I would be hesitant in this case. Artw (talk) 14:47, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, many thanks for commenting. Govindaharihari (talk) 03:31, 31 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
