Just to say I don't think people should include Jay-Z as having 4 number ones, as in the UK he was not credited on Beyonce's Crazy in Love.

That's correct as recorded by the OCC, he wasn't credited on "Crazy in Love" and has three number ones. I've removed him from the page, sorry Jay-Z. Btljs (talk) 07:29, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Cleanup

This page really needs to be put into a proper table. As it is, it looks awful and goes against all other similar chart related articles. Since when did putting Christmas tree motifs in a music article become standard? Coming to that, why are these even indicated? Being a number one at Christmas is not at all important to this article. Unnecessary space seems to be taken up here, when with better formatting, the list could run to artists who have had 3 number ones. Listing every record a performer is on

@188.135.199.159: You seem to have spent some considerable time creating a list of every number one record that a performer has been on and redefining the definition of 'credited' to include these. If you have found some reliable source that does this then you should include it. I would still argue against such a definition as too vague. The point about 'credited' artists is that they are just that - credited by name as an artist or featured artist. If you are going to say "well, so and so was in this band therefore they are on this record." you run into the problem of proving it. Were they in the band at that time? Did they actually perform on this particular recording? The other side of the problem is even more difficult: how do you know that there aren't other records which they appear on? There may be (in fact almost certainly will be) session musicians who have appeared on tracks by numerous artists - shouldn't they be included? What of somebody who is sampled in a song? With charity supergroups you have no way of knowing who is included in the final recording, only who turned up on the day. It's an interesting exercise but one for a music forum not an encyclopaedia I think. Any thoughts anyone? Can we agree not to change the list unless consensus disagrees with my points above? You misunderstand: Can you find a reliable source which counts number 1s by artists who appeared but are not credited? I'm sure there are plenty of biographical sources on individual artists but that is not the same thing and does not make the list complete or correct or appropriate. (Beatles wiki is not a reliable third party source - it's like citing a Wikipedia page). A quick skim through your list shows glaring inconsistencies: Freddie Mercury had a solo number 1 and he was in Queen for example, and that's a track he is credited on as the main artist. Can you tell me with any conviction that your list is anywhere near complete or accurate?

Also I ask again: please can we leave the list as it was unless there is clear consensus for changing it? It cannot remain as it is an unsupported and highly debatable piece of original research. Btljs (talk) 06:15, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

More evidence of errors and omissions: according to his WP page Clem Cattini has "featured on 44 different UK number one singles". Elton John played piano on He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother and sang backing vocals for Scaffold but whether on Lily the Pink I have no idea. Mick Jagger is not listed despite the fact that you have his duet with David Bowie listed under Bowie. I'm afraid that kills it for me. Btljs (talk) 06:36, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

They are only individually credited on three see here. "Wishing on a Star" was credited to the X Factor Finalists and so doesn't count. Btljs (talk) 07:18, 25 July 2015 (UTC)

Cheryl

4 of Cheryl's number ones are as a member pf Girls Aloud, this doesn't count. Other solo artists on this list don't have their band's number ones included. E.g. Paul McCartney would have more number ones than Elvis if his solo number ones were combined with his Beatles & Wings number ones Iamaneyeblinkernoseblower (talk) 23:09, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Dispute over Elvis Presley’s last three listed No 1s

The three records “Jailhouse Rock”, “One Night”/“I Got Stung” and “It’s Now or Never” all reached No 1 in 1958, 1959 and 1960 respectively and then all topped the charts again in. 2005. Even as re-issues surely they should only be counted once. Brenmar (talk) 22:06, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
