History note[edit]

Guernsey F.C.[edit]

As of this season, Guernsey F.C., from the Channel Island of Guernsey (which is not part of the U.K., let alone England), has been established specifically to play in the English Combined Counties Football League Division One (10th tier) rather than any of the island's local leagues. Should this be mentioned in the article? --SkysmurfTalkContribs 04:40, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Llanymynech[edit]

From what I can tell from their website, Llanymynech play in the Welsh system but are based in England (the village straddles the border, but the map showing where the ground is shows it on the west side of the village.--Timtranslates (talk) 18:15, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AfD for related topic[edit]

This article and its content is being discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of ice hockey clubs playing in the league of another country. Please contribute as to what should be done. The discussion there will likely affect this page as a whole to roll it back to solely football. Yosemiter (talk) 13:28, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edit history attribution and eventual AfD[edit]

As the previously linked AfD resulted in deletion, and this page appears to also be very much based on original research, I have proposed a history merge of this article into the recently recreated List of association football clubs playing in the league of another country as all edit history here from December 2006 to May 2016 was solely for football. The football article appears to have a few decent sources talking about the subject of national leagues and teams playing in leagues sanctioned by another nations governing body. As I have found no sources talking about sports clubs in general, I will likely nominated this page for deletion after the edit history attribution is fixed. Individual sports that can be well sourced with actual national leagues, like association football, should be evaluated or recreated on a sport-by-sport basis. This should be done either here or eventually on its own.

For example, ice hockey was deleted because most of the upper leagues that were discussed are not affiliated or sanctioned by associations for national governing bodies and is not typically talked about in media sources. Most of the professional leagues are inherently considered international. Some of the minor Euro leagues are sanctioned by governing bodies, but again the sources about ice hockey clubs in a foreign league are really only mentioned specifically to those leagues, and not in general as required per WP:LISTN. In North America, the junior ice hockey leagues are the only leagues affiliated withe the Canadian and US governing bodies. The subject of crossing the border is already covered there, so any list would essentially be a duplicate of that page (as well as the countries already mentioned in List of ice hockey leagues).

I do not claim to be an expert in every sport, but I admit there is the possibility of sources and improvement of this topic on a sport-by-sport basis. I do not want to be hasty here with an AfD if there are other sports with similar media coverage and national leagues to football. Yosemiter (talk) 18:14, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ukraine / Russia[edit]

There are no Ukrainian clubs that competed in Russian competitions. The section was created by someone who as they say "heard a toll, but has no idea where it is". All Ukrainian clubs were officially dissolved and reconstituted as Russian sports organization. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 19:00, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

There is no way the mentioned clubs play under the yellow-blue flag (Ukraine). Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 19:51, 16 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If the clubs played within the Russian Professional Football League despite being in Crimea, a territory recognized by the majority of nations as being part of Ukraine, then I think they are appropriate for this article. OZOO (t) (c) 09:04, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bosnia[edit]

In 1992 when Bosnia and Herzegovina declared its independence, all Bosnian clubs removed themselves from the Yugoslav league, however, one club, FK Borac Banja Luka kept on playing in the First League of FR Yugoslavia in the 1992–93 season. FkpCascais (talk) 15:05, 3 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Guernsey, Jersey and Man[edit]

These should be removed because they are not countries. If there are no objections I will WP:BOLDly remove them. Geschichte (talk) 14:40, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I second the proposal to remove them, go ahead. 92.40.29.22 (talk) 11:08, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Kosovo / Serbia[edit]

I think this section is not neutral, Kosovo is not universally recognised and I think it either needs deleting, or a description explaining that the North Serbian Community of Kosovo consider themselves as playing in their home country. It is only a local leauge anyway, not exactly international travel. 92.40.29.22 (talk) 11:12, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Breakaway regions?[edit]

Not sure if we want to include breakaway regions, but Transnistrian club Sheriff Tiraspol plays in the Moldovan Super League. - 24.16.159.68 (talk) 00:29, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
