Untitled[edit]

There is an online book called The Red Book of the Peoples of the Russian Empire that contains a much longer list (and a lot of detail) about indigenous and minority groups in Russia. Some of these might be appropriate to add to this list. I won't do this myself though because I'm no expert and would probably get it wrong.

Capitalisation[edit]

I'd like to note that the term indigenous is used in this article and its title as a common noun – i.e., it does not denote a specific ethnicity but simply indicates all those peoples that inhabited the territory for millennia.

Compare: American Natives (proper noun denoting a distinct group) vs A native of New York (common noun). She was an Indigenous woman (proper noun) vs indigenous tribes of Eastern Europe (common noun).

@Kashmiri Capitalization of Indigenous is recommended for English Wikipedia when referring to Indigenous peoples by both Wikipedia:INDIGENOUS and MOS:RACECAPS. Whether or not these guidelines are US-centric or North America-centric is another question. I will raise the question on WikiProject Russia's ethnography and demographics taskforce. @Bohemian Baltimore Both these guidelines fail to distinguish uses as common noun and uses as an ethnonym. WP:INDIGENOUS in particular is heavily entrenched in the North American public discourse where the term is predominantly used as an ethnonym (similar to the terms Black and White).
