Untitled[edit]

I altered "formerly" educated to "formally" educated, and "vigors" of this life to "rigors" of this life, as I believe these meanings are what the originator intended - hope this works OK.--Karenjc 19:10, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Removing "fan site" label[edit]

I have reworked the article to sound less sentimental and adoring, while hopefully retaining a sense of the importance of Moon's legacy with regard to SBC missionary efforts. 23:58, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Lead NPOV[edit]

I don't want to offend anybody about this excellent article, but I thought the statement that Ms. Moon was in China "helping the Chinese" wasn't neutral. That she gave food to starving Chinese from her own resources is brought out in the article, but her principal objective in China was not helping people -- but rather converting them to Christianity. civil war spy?[edit]

A book says that Lottie Moon is a Confederate spy and her sister was Virginia "Ginnie" Moon. Is this the same person and if so is it true? 99.178.102.54 (talk) 06:38, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Wiki Lottie Moon missionary page here links to the Lottie Moon House spy page. Please clarify above question. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.165.93.94 (talk) 19:45, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

They are different persons. The missionary was the daughter of Edward and Anna-Maria Moon born in Viewmont, Albermarle County, Va., Dec. 12, 1840. The spy was the daughter of Robert and Cynthia Moon, and while she too was born in Virginia, the House article claims the family lived in Ohio since 1839, which does not fit with the missionary's birthdate. Also, I'd expect some of the missionary's various biographies to mention her espionage exploits if they were the same person, whereas the spy biography says she "became a journalist", which isn't quite the same as becoming a China missionary.
The House article is pretty new and has some dubious links; I'll removed the one pointing here. Huon (talk) 20:35, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So now there's no disambiguation tool, and people reading each page are wondering "why no mention of her missionary activity?" or "what about her being a Confederate spy?"... I'm off to bed, but if it's not disambiguated soon I'll do so. --Haruo (talk) 07:31, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

shenanigans in the boarding school[edit]

Someone once told me that Lottie Moon tied her bedsheets around the part of the big schoolbell that makes it ding and as a result nobody could hear it and school had to start late that day. Is that a true story? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:204:D981:A710:F0BC:53C7:74F8:3EC2 (talk) 19:44, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
